MARGAO: The gram sabha of Navelim Panchayat on Sunday adopted a resolution demanding that the villagers be given further three months time in respect of filing objections to the resurvey in the village.
Villagers present at the gram sabha which was chaired by sarpanch Frank Fernandes pointed out that the 15 days extension granted to file objections has been of no help as no village map was available in the village or at survey office in Margao. They demanded that full village map be made available in village Navelim and also objections if any from villagers be accepted in village itself.
Villager Eterno from Mandopa raised the issue of garbage, demanding that the panchayat body should stop granting construction licence for commercial projects in Navelim. Herald Pinto pointed that villagers face problems of water supply and electricity and that unless infrastructure in the village is improved and upgraded no licence for commercial project be granted. On the issue raised regarding illegal construction at Calvado, Navelim, the sarpanch refused to reply stating that the matter was subjudice being in court.
The issue of migrant in village also figured at Sunday gram sabha.
Pinto proposed that footpath be constructed along road from Rosary College, Navelim to Sinquetim and also from Ravora to Mandopa. The construction of bus stop opposite Rosary Commercial Arcade, Navelim was discussed at the gram sabha. Villagers also pointed to sarpanch the menace of stray dogs in village to which sarpanch promised to take action and also informed that number of dogs had been sterilized by NGO. A villager proposed that fish and vegetables be made available by government at subsidized rate.
