VASCO: Fierce clashes between two groups left three persons injured at Mangor Hill, Vasco, late Sunday evening. Seven youth have been arrested in this connection.
Tension prevailed near Ambabai Temple at Mangor Hill, Vasco, late in the evening as two groups armed with knives clashed over an issue involving a girl, forcing all the shopkeepers from the locality to shut down their shops.
Although the details of the dispute could not be verified, it appeared to be a fight over a ‘love affair’ according to people in the area.
According to one eye witness, Francis, when he saw two groups clashing with each other over some matter, he rushed to stop them. However, he too was also assaulted.
“I immediately alerted the Vasco police, who rushed to the site and brought the situation under control,” informed the eye witness.
Meanwhile, an accused, Manju Madar, said that when the clashes broke out at Mangor Hill, he was attending an orchestra at Baina. “I was told that my brother is being assaulted at Mangore. I along with three other friends rushed to Mangor to help my brother,” stated Manju.
Sources informed that in the clash, two youth, Maulali Habib Sheikh and Abdul Rehman, were stabbed with knives. The duo was rushed to GMC Hospital in a critical condition.
Vasco police arrested Manju Madar and his brother Durgesh, while six other youth from the group are reported to be absconding. The police have also arrested five youth from the other group.
Vasco police have filed an offence against both the groups and Vasco PSI John Fernandes is investigating.
