VASCO: Fear of losing their homes due to erosion looms large in the minds of residents of Vollant in Vasco (behind KTC bus stand) since the time the Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) has undertaken dredging work to deepen the river in order to expand their operational area.
The residents claimed that the GSL failed to take precautionary measures by building a retaining wall along the river bank, before taking up dredging work and whenever the residents gather to protest against the dredging work, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel scare them off by pointing guns at them.
“It is a long pending issue, as since last several years we all have been protesting against the said dredging work undertaken by the GSL authorities,” said Advocate Urban Rodriguese, a resident of Vallant in Vasco.
