In Shiroda, Congress’ Subhash Shirodkar, BJP’s Mahadev Naik, MGP’s Abhay Prabhu and the AAP’s Molu Velip, beside two Independents Diya Shetkar and Nilesh Gaonkar have initiated their door to door campaign which has got momentum now as election is just 8 days ahead. Their visits to the voters are short, with one or two-minute discussion on local issues and an appeal to vote for them.
Shirodkar was planning strategies with his main party workers, including women, at his residence at 9 am. Around 200 workers and Shirodkar went to Bhatwada, Aframanth Shiroda and Thal, near Kamaxi Temple. Subhash (Bahu) riding as pillion on a scooter was seen treading the rough. He was distributing U-turn books of BJP published by Congress.
His brother Megnath, who accompanied him, feels there is an undercurrent of Congress due to frustration among voters with BJP’s false promises. Congress workers were seen shouting slogans of victory as Bahu was entering houses of his voters who welcomed him with a glass of sweetened water.
The constituency has around 5,000 Catholics. Last time they were with the BJP but after the MoI issue, it is unlikely they will vote for the saffron party. This, according to some voters, may make the difference.
As Shirodkar moves around to each and every house, people assure him that they are behind him and promise to vote for him.
This assurance brings a smile on Shirodkar’s face and it appears that the voters are eager for a parivartan. Residents say Shiroda lacks development because Subhash was not in power.
Bahu says that the MGP had lost its existence 30 years back after Congress wrested the Shiroda seat from them.
