VP polls: Over 4000 nominations received

PANJIM/MARGAO: With just two days left to file nominations for the coming panchayat polls in the State, 4266 nominations have been filed for wards in the 186 village panchayats.

PANJIM/MARGAO:  With just two days left to file nominations for the coming panchayat polls in the State, 4266 nominations have been filed for wards in the 186 village panchayats.
On Tuesday State Election Commission received 2168 nomination of which 1146 were in North Goa and 1022 in South Goa. 
In all, 1522 wards spread across 186 panchayats, will be going to the polls on June 11. The counting is schedule to take place on June 13. Filings of nominations began on May 18 while May 25 is the last day. 
As per information, approximately 1700 ballot boxes would be used for polling, which will be done through ballot papers.
Meanwhile, as many as 311 nominations were filed today before the three returning officers in Margao. The highest number of 32 nominations was received from the Colva panchayat followed by 17 from Davorlim Dicarpale and 16 from Loutolim. Two former sarpanchas — Derrick Braganza Pereira and Etelvina Perpetua Antao e Travasso filed their nominations for Chandor-Cavorim panchayat albeit in two different wards,.
While the mamlatdar, joint mamlatdar I and Joint Mamlatdar II received a whopping 137, 99 and 75 nominations respectively.
