The Goa Forward Party said that the governor has acknowledged their request of speeding up the process of the work of Lohia Maidan. The GFP members also said that Governor’s visit after the letter their party president Vijai Sardesai wrote with regards to the delay is an acknowledgement to their efforts for Lohia Maidan.
The District Collector Ajit Roy, Chairperson of Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Pooja Naik, Chief Officer Ajit Panchwadkar, freedom fighters and councillors were with the Governor while he paid homage to the freedom fighter. The Governor has reportedly said that he will do everything in his hands to improve the condition of the Lohia Maidan.
“I am hoping that the chief minister, who is holding the Finance Department portfolio, will soon grant us the approval,” said the MMC Chairperson, Pooja Naik.
Mohandas Lolienkar of Goa Forward said, “If the Government is ignoring the Lohia Maidan which is the iconic place from where Goa’s freedom struggle began then it is very sad. We are happy that the Governor has given the importance to Lohia and the Maidan.”
“Lohia has to be the priority of Goan Polity. Politics shouldn’t come in the way of the work. We are okay if we don’t get the credit for the work but it has to start and complete,” added Lolienkar.
The Goa Forward said that the tendering process is complete and is waiting for financial approval.
