PANJIM: National Green Tribunal (NGT) Delhi on Tuesday witnessed an unusual heated exchange of words between Additional Solicitor General of India Atmaram Nadkarni, Goa Advocate General Dattaprasad Lawande and counsel Ritwick Dutta during a hearing challenging the environment clearance (EC) for the Greenfield International Airport at Mopa.
The heated exchange happened during rejoinder arguments filed by one of the petitioners for which Dutta was appearing. Hanuman Aroskar and Rainbow Warriors have challenged the EC granted to the project.
During the hearing, Dutta started making misleading arguments dehors the record and contrary to the legal position. In the course of rejoinder arguments, which normally are restricted to law points, instead Dutta started arguing facts, making personally allegations against MoEF Counsel Nadkarni, said the Goa legal team.
Thereafter, he made allegations against LD AG Goa, they said.
When allegations were baseless and unjustified, both LD ASG and LD AG took on the petitioners counsel giving him in return a mouthful with the contempt it deserved. Nadkarni lashed out at Dutta, who was quickly shaken and started apologising.
