Sanguem: Consequent to the report published on Herald’s May 18 edition, titled ‘Sanguem local complain to PHC, SMC over open drain’, the Health Officer of the Sanguem Primary Health Centre swung into action and issued a notice under Section 40 of Goa Public Health Act 1985.
Dr. Seema Poi Fondekar directed the concerned individual who was releasing the sewage and other waste water into the open drain to clean the choked drain and adopt proper sanitation measures within a period of seven days.
The notice added that the it has been causing severe health problem to the complainant and those residing in the neighborhood because of the foul smell.
Upon receiving the notice, the individual immediately removed all the accumulated waste from the open drain and dumped it by the side of the main road. The ward councillor Sandesh Kossambe however assured the complainant Arun Kossambe to get the waste removed from the road side within a day.
Dr. Fondekar also threatened to write to the Electricity and the Water Supply Department to disconnect the electricity and water connection if the directions were not adhered to.
