AGONDA: Local residents in Agonda have accused traders, especially from outside Goa, dumping waste in nearby water bodies and have demanded action from the authorities on the same.
“With the tourism season coming to an end, the traders, especially from outside Goa, are dumping their waste in the water bodies at Dhavalkhajan and Divanbag, leading to water pollution. They also burn their waste near the river banks, causing air pollution as well. Already there is water scarcity in the area and these incidents will only add to the woes of the locals,” said social worker Rupa Pagi.
With the tourism season coming to an end, most of the traders have started to wrap up their temporary establishments and are in mood to go back to their native towns. However, locals have expressed disappointment over traders not respecting the places which helped them to earn their livelihood.
“The authorities who granted them NOC, should now take the responsibility of cleaning their mess,” said one of the villagers.
