MARGAO: Many a village across the state might be experiencing water shortage with the onset of summer but welcome to Pajifond-Margao, where PWD water goes waste day in and day out due to sheer callousness of officials.

A visit to the water filling point behind the Cross at the entrance to the government Junta quarters reveals criminal wastage of water. Water from the filling point had been flowing down into the adjoining storm-water drain for want of repairs to the valve.

Residents of Pajifond complained of round-the-clock wastage of water at the filling point near the Holy Cross. A resident, Nitin Naik, lamented that no action to stop the wastage has been initiated by the PWD despite complaints. “This criminal wastage of water has been going on since the last 10 days. Even water tankers are filled up with water, there’s waste of water even though nearby localities are facing water scarcity”, he said.

What has agitated the locals is that no action had been forthcoming from the PWD till date. “We had drawn attention of the PWD field staff to the problem but in vain”, he said.
