VALPOI: The low voltage in Sattari taluka has created water shortage in the area for the past 15 days and the water supply department authorities have blamed the electricity department officials for neglecting the low voltage problem faced by the taluka.
It may be recalled that villages of Poriem, Keri, Pali, Thane, Kopardem, Hivrem, Charawane, Nagargao and others raised the issue of shortage of drinking water for the past few days.
Comparatively the water supply has also decreased for the past 15 days.
When contacted regarding the water supply PWD department official pointed the issue of low voltage due to which pumps cannot be operated on a full-time basis and often trip causing a disruption in the supply.
Assistant Engineer Eknath Paste said the low voltage at different locations has badly affected the water supply system in Sattari taluka and added if pumps were to operate in full capacity, almost 460 voltage is required, but for the past 15 days only 340 to 350 voltage is reported due to which the pumps cannot be operated in full swing.
Also, there is fear of water pumps being damaged. Since no standby motors are available at many places, there is a fear that water supply to the taluka would be paralysed if the operating motors were damaged due to low voltage supply. The Valpoi Electricity Department has already being informed of the issue, to which action is yet to take place, he said.
When contacted regarding the issue, officials operating this feeder say that the problem has already been highlighted to the higher authorities.
“We are facing the water shortage problem in since past many days. We have already complained to the junior engineer but he is not taking any action,” points out Asmita Rane.
