PANJIM: Claiming that by 2017 water supply won’t be an issue, Public Works Department Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar said a 100 MLD water supply plant at Selaulim will be commissioned this month.
Dhavalikar said that with this plant most of South Goa would be supplied with 24 hour water, adding that there was a shortfall of 30-40 MLD in South Goa and this plant will meet that demand.
He said that by 2017 the government would try to complete all pending water supply projects which would ensure 24 hours water. The Minister said that a 28 MLD plant at Opa would be completed soon and provide water to Ponda and Tiswadi, and that 5 MLD water would be supplied at Kadamba plateau where PWD is currently not supplying water to the plateau.
“The way the plateau is growing, in future there will be a need of at least 10 MLD at Kadamba plateau and the department is working keeping this in mind,” Dhavalikar said.
He also said that the capacity of the Assonora and Chandel plant in North Goa would be increased and in South Goa a 5 MLD plant at Sanguem would be taken up.
In Canacona a new 10 MLD plant would be commissioned at Gawane to cater to Cotigao and Gaondongrim, he said.
He said a proposal of Rs 403 crore project has been prepared by the department to lay a new water pipeline in South Goa and that the government may approach JICA and World Bank for a loan.
