We were not contacted for comments: SPs

PANJIM: In a possible bid to discourage reporting crime in the media, two IPS officers claimed that they were not contacted for their reaction and comments before the reports are filed in the newspapers.

During a press briefing jointly held by IGP, DIG and four SPs, Crime Branch SP Kartik Kashyap and North SP Priyanka Kashyap spoke about how some media houses were taking reports on certain crime-related cases without verifying facts. The police have been under pressure for their lack of transparency and refusal to speak to sections of the media that have highlighted their sins of omission and commission.
Herald, to which they were alluding, has strongly contested their claims citing examples how both IPS officers have been refusing to answer calls or messages sent by its reporters for reactions and seeking clarifications on inputs gathered about cases.
