MARGAO: Benaulim MLA Caetano (Caitu) Silva inspected the flood prone areas along the under construction western bypass and again requested the govt to build a flyover in the zone to avoid flooding.
The MLA also expressed his anger over the failure of the disaster management mechanism to curb the collapsing sides of the River Sal which are posing a threat to houses. “The situation of Benaulim, Seraulim and Mungul is bad and water has touched the road level and entered houses in these areas,” Silva said.
“Only the Nuvem side is filled with mud for road and if the western bypass is constructed in these conditions, then, Benaulim and the adjoining areas will definitely go under water soon,” he predicted adding, “I request the PWD Minister and the Chief Minister to come and see the conditions of the flooding and if they still don’t care, then, Caitu will drown along with the people here.” The MLA has also criticised the Disaster Management Authority for failing to curb the collapsing sides of the River Sal at Benaulim and has asked the authority heads to quit if they can’t manage the problems.
