SP (Traffic) Shekhar Prabhudesai says he’s ‘unaware’ of these incidents

PANJIM: Traffic rules were thrown to the winds by politicians during bike rallies organised in different parts of Goa on Independence Day.
Many riders were seen riding two-wheelers without helmets and with Ministers riding pillion.
GOACAN, the people’s movement on civic and consumer rights has reacted strongly to this, seeking an advisory to ensure compulsory use of protective gear during all political and victory rallies.
Its coordinator and noted Consumer Rights activist Roland Martins said, “From yesterday have been receiving messages and videos showing motorcycle rallies undertaken by MLA and Ministers where in riders are seen without ISI-mark helmets. This is a very serious issue as far as road safety is concerned. Many young students and youth watch these on their TV and mobiles and it’s a message that’s not good for road safety.”
GOACAN has now decided to write to the Superintendent of Traffic Police to issue an advisory to politicians that when motorcycles (two-wheelers) are used during political/ victory rallies, all riders wear their helmets.
This is the best way we can set a precedent and send a strong message that road safety is being practiced by those in leadership positions in political establishments.
When contacted SP (Traffic) Shekhar Prabhudesai appeared unaware about these incidents and said that he will examine the matter.
