The Cell was put in place by the DMA’s office, with the inclusion of public-spirited citizens, to oversee and monitor the door-to-door waste collection programme in the town. However, the city fathers got the citizens out of the cell, including Savio Coutinho and Gunaji Desai, and filled the panel with municipal councillors.
Sources in the know said that the solid waste management cell of the town have not met even once during the last three months, leave alone monitor the door-to-door waste collection system on a day-to-day or weekly basis.
“We used to meet on a weekly basis and sometimes every alternate day to review the door-to-door waste collection exercise, but, it is sad to note that the solid waste management cell has not met even once or is monitoring the progress of the system,” lamented former cell member Savio Coutinho.
