Whistle-blower alleges embezzlement of funds

Seeks audit in Sancoale VP

VASCO: Following a representation from a whistle-blower, Sancoale Panchayat is likely to issue an order to conduct audit of the panchayat for the last five years.
According to information available, a villager, Narayan Datta Naik on Tuesday made a representation to the Sancoale panchayat alleging there was misappropriation of funds and violation of guidelines by the former panchayat body.
Naik alleged that for the last four to five years Sancoale panchayat had failed to conduct audit and requested the panchayat to take necessary steps to comply with all the previous outstanding paragraphs which were highlighted by the auditors and also initiate recoveries, wherever it has been proposed.
“I had made several RTI applications before the Sancoale panchayat authorities and what I have come to know that office audit of Panchayat accounts is pending since last four to five years. I have also pointed out that in the writ petition before the High Court filed by me, the Court had directed the Panchayat to comply with the audit of outstanding paragraphs of Panchayat books,” Naik said.
