Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has objected to the act of forcing Goans entering the State to compulsorily go for paid quarantine, such as the seafarers in a hotel in Panjim and have demanded that paid quarantine be made optional by choice for those who wish to pay for some better facilities.
AAP Goa Convenor Elvis Gomes called such ‘forcible action as nothing but loot of the common man’. Gomes referred to a case of a seafarer, who had undergone a 28-day-quarantine in Mumbai and had then arrived with all clearances. Gomes added that there was no justification in compelling this seafarer or for that matter anyone to pay and get quarantined.

“AAP will write to the Ministry of Home affairs today. The State government is ordering quarantine and on top of it, forcing people to pay. I don’t think it is fair, especially for the poor” said Gomes.
He also referred to a video of one Shailendra Sardessai who had claimed to have been forced into quarantine in a hotel in Mapusa merely for taking foreigners to Mumbai airport and returning the same day.
Meanwhile, AAP also questioned the laxity at the borders and alleged that there were several trucks carrying essential commodities, ore and industrial goods, who brought in an average of 3 people and who were just disappearing in Goa.
