MARGAO: Following a Herald report on the delay in shifting of the families affected by Ring Road land, a joint meeting was called on Thursday.
It has been decided to file an affidavit in the High Court seeking time to shift the families to proper place rather than the suggested transit camps. The meeting decided to shift the families after the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
The Meeting was held between the affected eight families, the TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai, District Collector Anjali Sehrawat, PWD, Deputy Collector for Land Acquisition, Comba Councillor Ketan Kurtarkar and others. The families at the meeting requested that they be shifted out only after the Ganesh Chaturthi and not before.
Meanwhile, Minister Vijai threw the session open to the people so as to what are their apprehensions as far as permanent rehabilitation is concerned. “These are not migrants that we just shift them out of the place. They are our own Goan people and they need to be dealt with sensitively,” Vijai, said.
He said that the people would not be sent to the transit camps as they are not suitable for stay. A proposal was made to shift of the families to the newly developed Housing Board scheme in Rumdamol Davorlim.
Responding to the same, Vijai said, “I have spoken to the panchayat to speed up the process of giving the occupancy to the building and since we have our colleague as the Housing Board Chairman, we have decided to temporarily shift the families to this facility after the Chavath.”
When Vijai enquired whether they would be happy to be permanently rehabilitated at Rumdamol flats, the families said that they would be.
Following this, the minister has decided to speak to the chief minister over the possibility of rehabilitating the families at Rumdamol flats and get back to them.
Herald had earlier reported how the District Administration had been in a slumber over compliance of the court order on shifting the families. Following this, matter was taken up by the minister and decided over the meeting.
