Will solve Cuncolim power woes in 3 months: Minister

MARGAO: Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardessai on Friday assured the people of Cuncolim that the power problems faced by them would be resolved within the next three months.
Vijai was addressing a delegation of people from Cuncolim constituency. A delegation member Vijay Prabhu said that they have been suffering from erratic power supply.
Yuri Alemao who accompanied the delegation said that the main problem is the sub-station that is also catering to Velim constituency and part of Quepem constituency. Besides, he said 15 transformers need to be replaced while another 40 are awaiting repairs and lamented that the last proposal with the department was the one given by previous MLA Rajan Naik.
After going through the memorandum and speaking to some electricity department officials, Vijai said the problem will be resolved within three months. He spoke to officials in the finance department and asked that the works estimated at around Rs 8 crore in Cuncolim be cleared immediately.
Speaking to another official from the Electricity Department he rubbished the logic of the Assistant Engineer for Cuncolim sitting in Margao and asked that premises be provided to the engineer in Cuncolim itself and asked the official to check the GSIDC complex for suitable premises.
“The government has to provide uninterrupted power to the people as they are paying for the power,” he said adding that people should not be made to suffer.
