MARGAO: Chief General Manager BSNL Anand V Kulkarni on Monday said that the telecom company has chalked out plans to meet the huge demand for broadband connectivity as well as BTS towers in Goa.
During an informal chat with the media on the sidelines of the two-day Sanchar Nigam Executives’ Association meet at the Ravindra Bhavan, here, on Monday, Kulkarni said he has reviewed the problems relating to both broadband and mobile services with BSNL General Manager, Goa area.
“In Goa, we are concentrating on broadband services. There’s a lot of demand for broadband in Goa. I have given directions to the Goa GM to concentrate on improving broad band services in the state. I will address the issue of cable availability. We have asked for cable from the corporate head office, Delhi. I intend to allot some stock to Goa to improve the broadband connectivity,” he said.
On the mobile services, Kulkarni admitted that BSNL does not have BTS towers right now, adding that the situation would improve after a tender is finalised within the next 3-4 months. He, however, said that directions have been issued to the GM, Goa to shift the traffic from BTS where it is low to areas where the requirement is more, adding that BSNL is tacking the issues of broadband and mobile services.
Replying to a question, he rejected the suggestion that BSNL officials are hand in gloves with private players, adding that work is affected in many areas on account of finalisation of new tenders. To another question regarding BSNL’s plans to improve services in a tourist state such as Goa, Kulkarni said efforts would be made to improve them further.
