PANJIM: Goa Mineral Ore Exporters Association (GMOEA) president Ambar Timblo on Thursday said that the petition challenging the abolition of mining leases, is likely to come up for hearing before the Supreme Court on August 3.
Speaking to media persons after meeting Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, Timblo said that the association will support all the efforts of the government to resume mining activities, probably to some extent post the monsoon.

“Supreme Court’s order in the SLP will help us get clarity on how we can move forward,” Timblo said.
“Our endeavor as industry and State is to try and begin some form of activity as soon as the monsoon gets over,” he said, adding that the Goa government is making sincere efforts to protect the livelihood of the people affected by mining.
Asked about formation of a mining corporation, Timblo refused to comment stating that he has not seen the details, but maintained that any attempt by the government to show how mining can be resumed in Goa will be suported by the industry.
“Everybody is trying their best as everyone is affected whether it is the State, Centre, people or the companies. All of us are putting efforts to ensure that this can happen sooner than later,” he added.
The Supreme Court had on Tuesday dismissed the review petitions filed by the State government and Vedanta Limited, seeking a review of the February 7, 2018 order that cancelled 88 mining leases.
