PANJIM: The daily number of COVID cases continued to stay a little over 400 for a second consecutive day with 418 new cases reported.
The COVID positivity rate has however crossed 15 per cent again at 15.23 per cent on Monday, after having dropped below 15 per cent for three consecutive days starting last Friday.
2,745 samples tested in the last 24 hours of Monday evening.
Thirteen deaths were also reported to have occurred during the same period.
Ten of these took place at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) and three at the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH).
Amongst the youngest to succumb to the infection were a 35-year-old female from Sindhudurg, a 38-year-old male from Vasco and a 42-year-old from Sangolda. The remaining cases were all above 44 years of age.
Two of the 13 did not have any co-morbidities.
The total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic is now at 2,840.
Incidentally, the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) on Monday announced that they will take action against private hospitals for releasing data of the deceased late.
“Sixty seven additional deaths are added to cumulative deaths, which were of the period from August 5, 2020 to May 5, 2021 and have been reported late from the private hospitals. Appropriate action under provision of Public Health Act will be initiated against these hospitals,” said the DHS. It is to be noted that these deaths due to COVID that were not reported by private hospitals changed the number of deaths that were reported earlier during that time.
Meanwhile, the total number of active cases has now dropped to 6,397. It may be recalled that last month, the number of active cases was around 32,000.
On Monday, no health centre reported above 550 active cases.
The Urban Health Centre (UHC) Margao continues to lead the list with 506 cases and is the only health centre above 500 cases.
Community Health Centre (CHC) Bicholim (99), Primary Health Centre (PHC) Aldona (91); PHC Mayem (77); PHC Cansarvanem (58) are the only health centres that have below 100 active cases.
1,162 persons recovered within the last 24 hours of Monday evening while the recovery rate is now at 94.22 per cent.
On Monday, 359 persons were placed under home isolation, 69 were hospitalised and 74 persons discharged from the hospitals.
