PANJIM: Indirectly blaming AICC leader Digvijay Singh for the fiasco over government formation, the Congress State leadership on Tuesday said ‘the situation would have been different today had Dr Chellakumar been in-charge of Goa on March 11’.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Luizinho Faleiro, responding to media questions on whether it was tussle for the Chief Ministerial position that led to party’s failure to form the government, even after having 17 MLAs, said, “I would rather say that if Dr Chellakumar was made party in-charge on March 11 then the picture or situation would have been different,” Faleiro said in presence of Chellakumar, who is on his first visit to Goa after being appointed Goa desk in-charge.
Soon after BJP formed the government, Faleiro had expressed displeasure over the manner in which the Congress central leadership had delayed in sending a letter to the Governor staking claim to form the government. He had blamed Singh for the failure. Singh also faced criticism from the party high command over the situation.
Meanwhile, the GPCC is set to go for elections in next two months, wherein it is most likely that the party will get a new face to head it. The Congress party is gearing up for organisational elections right from GPCC level to block committees. “We are looking for young and new faces at organisation level, including PCC. The elections are scheduled to take place in the next two months,” Faleiro said.
Chellakumar Tuesday evening met with block committee presidents, wherein they have set a target to enroll 1.5 lakh members.
