PANJIM, JULY 1
While the prices of fish have soared consequent to closure of mechanised fishing with fishing ban in place; prices of vegetables too have increased substantially in the last few days and probably prices will increase further because of hike in the prices of oil.
Though there is not much fluctuation in the retail prices of onions and potatoes, rates of other vegetables have jumped considerably. Two days back tomatoes were sold at Rs 30 per kg, but retail price per kg has gone up to Rs 35.
Retail prices of carrots, French beans and capsicum have also gone up. From Rs 40 per kg, carrots and French beans were sold at Rs 60 per kg in the Panjim market today. Even the price of common bhendi have risen to Rs 40 per kg.
However, vegetables sold at the stores of Goa State Horticulture Corporation Ltd, is slightly less but with limited supply it is in no possible to make a huge difference. Traders do not expect prices to drop immediately, as rains are also likely to impact the supply.
