VASCO: South Western Railways (SWR) has finally completed the construction of a new culvert along the tracks at Velsao, bringing relief to the villagers and particularly farmers. The railway authorities have also removed the pipelines from the creek locally known as `Poim’. The Railways has now begun the work of desilting the creek.

Cortalim MLA Anton Vas, along with Velsao-Pale-Issorcim panchayat members, farmers, and villagers, inspected the site last Friday. Earlier, some of the villagers and farmers had expressed concerns that the work of constructing a new culvert and the pipelines could cause flooding during the monsoon.
Following a representation by the local MLA and the farmers, the railway authorities agreed to remove the pipelines before the onset of monsoon. Vas said that some villagers were misguided by vested interests and raised doubts about the works undertaken by the South Western Railways.
He stated that the pipelines have now been removed after the completion of the new culvert and that the Railways will clear the entire area and restore it to its original condition.
The completion of the new culvert and removal of pipelines from the creek has brought great relief to locals, who were concerned about the possibility of flooding during the upcoming monsoon season.
