PANJIM: March 29 is set as the day for the withdrawal of nomination for the April 12 Lok Sabha polls in Goa. Twenty candidates are left in fray for the two Parliamentary seats -North and South Goa.
The Returning Officers of both the districts after scrutiny rejected four nomination papers filed by Anil Hoble and Nilesh Cabral (BJP) and Amarnat Panjikar and Epifanio Gomes (Congress). All four were dummy candidates.
BJP, Congress, AAP, and Communist Party of India (CPI) have put up candidates for both North and South Goa seat.
While the newly formed Goa Democratic Front is in the fray from North Goa, there are also some independents are contesting from both the constituencies.
For North, BJP has re-nominated its three time sitting MP Shripad Naik while Congress had fielded its former Chief Minister Ravi Naik. AAP’s Dattaram Desai and CPI Suhaas Naik are in the fray. GDF has fielded its President Dayanand Narvekar while Samajwadi Janata Party has nominated Raju D’Souza. The two independent candidates include- Mittu Mujavar and Ranjeet Singh Rane.
South Goa seat that saw tussle within the Congress party over the Lok Sabha ticket, will see a multicornered contest between Narendra Sawaikar (BJP), Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco (Congress) Churchill Alemao (Trinamool Congress), Savio Rodrigues (Su-Raj), Raju Mangueshkar (CPI), Swati Kerkar (AAP), Shallom Sardinha, Govind Gawade, Venus Habib, Balkrushna Salgaoncar (Independent) and Clifton D’Souza (Bahujan Mukti party).
