MARGAO: The death of 43-year-old Antoneta Rodrigues, resident of Fatorda and a mother of two minor children, in mysterious circumstances sent shock waves after she was found lying dead on a bed in her bungalow on Tuesday evening.
When the police were asked to comment on strong suspicions that the woman might have been murdered, DySP Mohan Naik said the exact cause of death will be known only after the post mortem examination scheduled on Wednesday.
He, however, said the police have started working on all possible angles given the fact that the woman was found dead in mysterious circumstances.
“No external injuries were found on her body. We have registered a case of unnatural death for the moment,” Naik said.
Antonetta along with her two minor daughter Swana, (13) and Estefia (8) were residing in a duplex bungalow at Fatorda.
South Goa police top bras including SP Vijay Singh, Margao DySP Mohan Naik, Margao PI Sudesh Naik and Maina Curtorim PI Gurudas Kadam along with police force were at the crime spot.
According to information, Minguel, the husband of the deceased works abroad at Dubai while both girls study in Fatima convent high school, with the eldest studying in Std VIII and the younger one in KG –I.
As usual, Antonette dropped her younger daughter to school and returned home.
However, as she failed to pick up the daughter, the elder daughter along with her sister went to their uncle house, residing in the same area.
It is learnt that her family members thought that Antonette had gone to Panjim to pick up her ailing mother.
Later in he evening, as she failed to come to pick up her children, Swana along with cousin went to the bungalow, only to find the house latched from inside.
As the suspicion grew, her sister in law Banny peeped through the window and saw Rodrigues lying on the bed.
Later the door was opened and doctor called who declared her dead. Interestingly, the rear door of the bungalow was found wide open and it is suspected that accused after committing the ghastly incident might have escaped through the back door.
Margao PI Sudesh Naik is investigating under overall supervision of DySP Mohan NaiK and supervision of South Goa SP Vijay Singh.
