Women from Merces protective home shifted to Mumbai
HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, SEPT 28
The women victims who attempted futile escape bid from Merces protective home on September 16, have been shifted to Mumbai protective home.
Director of Women and Child Department, Sanjiv Gadkar confirmed that in an order by Sub-Divisional Magistrate, all 11 women were released from Merces protective home and shifted to Mumbai under police escort.
Protesting their prolonged lodging at Merces Home, these women managed to flee from the protective home but were later traced with the help of Old Goa police.
The authorities, tried to keep the incident under veil as it exposed their lethargy of keeping the women for over three months against the legal provision to release them within 15 days.
The girls, who are victims of prostitution, were rescued by the police from various locations in North Goa.
