BICHOLIM: The government primary school at Bicholim has seen a ray of light down the tunnel with the local MLA and the officials assuring the parents that the work on the building would begin in next two months.
It may be stated that earlier Herald had highlighted the plight of the school building which is having about 500 students. The building is in a dilapidated condition with the slab falling at several places.
Today a special meeting was held in the deputy collector’s office which was attended by the local MLA, Rajesh Patnekar; officials from GSIDC, education and also the PTA members.
Speaking to media, Patnekar said the tender of the building was taken up almost six times with no bidders on the first three occasions and only one for the remaining bids.
“Since there was only a single bidder we tried to give him the contract but he was not ready to abide by the norms that we placed. So because of all these things there was delay in construction of the building” Patnekar added.
The meeting was fruitful as most of the demands of the parents were accepted. The MLA said the school would get a full time Headmaster and the students would soon be shifted to new premises.
