Work on sewerage chambers causes traffic congestion at Ponda

PONDA: Several sewerage chambers on the Tisk to Dag Ponda and Kavlem road are hampering the traffic flow from Ponda to Marcaim which sees vehicles passing non-stop through this stretch.

Two big sewerage chambers are dug exactly opposite the Government Building at Tisk Ponda that houses the Collector’s, Mamlatdar’s, BDO’s and other several offices.

Opposite to this building lies the Court Building. A large number of people visit these offices. However, with only one police managing the traffic opposite the court building, the vehicles move at a snail’s pace.

Similarly there is another huge sewerage chamber on the sharp turn and slope at Dag Ponda and also another near the PWD Office.

To increase the traffic woes, a huge chamber is dug opposite the Saraswati temple where sewerage work is in progress.

With the construction of these sewerage chambers, the width of road has narrowed down and vehicles have often to wait to make way for those coming the opposite way, leading to traffic congestion on this busy stretch of the road. In view of this impediment, Ponda locals have demanded that more traffic police be deployed near all the sewerage chambers dug at the road side till the work on these chambers is complete. “The safety of commuters should not be compromised as the sewerage chambers are dug at the depth of 12 to 16 metres,” said one Ponda local.
