PERNEM: Residents of Bandekarwado, Morjim objected to Morjim Village Panchayat’s decision to convert the old primary school building situated at Bandekarwada into a garbage dumping spot.
On Tuesday, the local residents gathered outside the old school building objecting to this decision of the panchayat.

“The government should renovate this building and have projects such as Bal Bhavan, police station, music school or any other instead of making this land as a garbage spot. This is an educational building and converting it into a dumping spot will not be allowed,” a local resident said.
“Many students have passed out and have made their career in different professions. This is an educational premise which cannot be used for garbage dumping. Instead of making it into a garbage dumping site, this building should be renovated and used for any other purpose such as music school, teaching school for ladies or any other. We will not allow garbage projects on this land where knowledge was given out. We have strong objections for this project and we will not allow the panchayat to convert this premises into a garbage spot at any cost,” another resident Manish Taral said.
Residents have demanded the panchayat to shift the garbage plant project from Bandekarwado.
Green Tribunal have directed the panchayats to identify land in every panchayat to treat the garbage generated in the village failing which action will be imitated against the sarpanch, deputy and secretary.
