PANJIM: Work on the new Rs 1850 crore cable-stayed third bridge over River Mandovi and the six-laning of the highway from Bambolim to Verna will start from October, PWD minister Ramkrishna Sudin Dhavalikar declared on Tuesday.
Addressing media, Dhavalikar said that the tender for the project that will include not just the six lane bridge and the 11-12 km Bambolim–Verna highway stretch, but a scooter lane and three flyovers and subways.
“Within the next few days we will get administrative approval and financial sanction. The tendering process will begin by May end or June,” Dhavalikar said, adding, ‘the tender will be finalized by July – August, accepted in September and work will start by October.’
The minister also said that the government of India had cleared the appointment of a consultancy service for the NH 17 from Patradevi to Polem and from Panjim to Mollem (till Anmod Ghat) and the work order for the NH 4 project will be finalized by next week.
“Within three to four months, the project work will be completed fully and then we will submit it to the MoST and the MoRT,” he said.
The minister said that the government will fulfill all the promises that had been made before the 2012 elections and the national highways would be developed fully.
Projects that are to be completed within the next year are the Rs 500 crore odd 5 km road from Airport to Mormugao Port Trust would be completed. It will have flyovers and will be a four lane highway. After that the Verna to MPT road upgradation would start.
“We want to complete the work in one year,” he told media, adding that the tender was out and the work order would be released this month.
“We need this time to get new financial sanction,” he said. Other projects include the Khandepar bridge, four lane Curti bypass, other roads in Ponda including flyovers and a 4.5 km road to Farmagudi.
“Curti bypass will have three flyovers,” Dhavalikar concluded.
