OLD GOA: About 48 workers of a company, affiliated to Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh Goa Pradesh, have gone on a three-day token strike in protest against non-revision of wages by the company management at Corlim.
The workers have given a three-day ultimatum to the company management to increase minimum wages of Rs 5,500 along with addition of their monthly salary, which is Rs 9,000.
Speaking to Herald, Workers Union President Sameer Phadte said they have been working in the company for the last 16 years but till date they are paid minimum wages. “We have been fighting for our demands with the company management for the last 10 months but the management is not listening to our charter of demands, of which one is to raise an increment of Rs 5,500,” said Phadte.

“It’s difficult for our family to survive with the present salary but the company management is ready to give raise by only Rs 3,000. If our family has to survive, then this payment of Rs 9,000 is not sufficient for us,” added Phadte.
“We have given a notice to the company management for holding a three-day token strike and if the management do not listen to our demand within three days, then we will go on indefinite hunger strike,” warned Phadte. “We don’t have proper water, toilet, canteen and transport facilities but we ask to increase our wages,” he added.
