PANJIM: Before the next panchayat elections, the government will reserve posts for persons from the Scheduled Caste Community, Panchayat Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said.
“Reservations of SC posts will be done before the next elections, in 44 panchayats where there is a sizable population of the SC community,” Parsekar said.
Currently in these panchayats, members of the SC community are co-opted as panchayat members. However, these members do not have the right to vote in no confidence motions, in panchayat resolutions, neither are they eligible for the posts of sarpanch or deputy sarpanch, denying them powers.
