PANJIM: The Classes X and XII examinations of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education will be conducted simultaneously, between March 1 and 15, 2014, according to a letter issued by the Board to heads of institutions Monday.
The communiqué was issued by the Goa Board following the Education Department’s recent circular elucidating the new academic calendar for educational institutions from this academic year.
“The Board has finalized the dates for the conduct of the Classes X and XII examinations based on the academic calendar,” the Chairman of the Goa Board JR Rebello said.
Rebello said the Education Department, including the Board members, the Principals Forum and Goa Headmasters Association have been taken into confidence while finalizing the examination dates.
While Classes X and XII examinations were conducted simultaneously in the yester years, in the recent past there were different schedules in the conduct of the two exams extending to over a month.
The Goa Board has taken into account the two terms from June 5 to October 29, 2013 and the second term from November 18, 2013 to April 30, 2014. The first semester terminal exams will begin from October 21, 2013 and second semester terminal exam after April 9, 2014.
Educational institutions have to now ensure 237 working days and a total of 200 instructional days.
The Goa Board has also now directed heads of institutions to plan out their academic calendar in keeping with the examination dates set out by the Board for 2014.
Rebello said the Goa Board will chalk out the other modalities for the conduct of the Board exams for Classes X and XII accordingly and intimate the institutions in course of time.
