CURCHOREM: The Xeldem panch Lourenchina Correia has denied the charges made against her that she slapped Agnelo Fernandes, a resident of Sonafator, Tilamol, over the issue of refusing NOC to obtain domestic water connection to his house.
Correia said that a false complaint has been filed against her to tarnish her reputation at the instance of Sarpanch Pramod Gauns Desai. “I did not slap him. On contrary, Fernandes abused me with filthy language and pushed me when I came out from the meeting hall after the gram sabha,” Correia said and informed that that after the incident Fernandes trespassed into her property and caused damage to her house and to that effect her husband Caetano Carvalho filed a police complaint.
“Though the agenda was fixed for the meeting and no other issue was supposed to be taken up, the sarpanch allowed Fernandes to speak for over five minutes wherein he even abused me which the sarpanch silently permitted,” Correira said.
Clarifying the statement of Sarpanch Gauns Desai that the new house number was not allotted to Fernandes due to her objection, Correia said that she has no role to play in allotting the house numbers as it is the duty of the sarpanch and secretary to allot numbers after verifying all the relevant documents and if at all the local panch has any objection they can bypass the panch if the party has complied with all the requirements.
Meanwhile, Caetano Carvalho has filed a cross complaint against Agnelo Fernandes for assaulting him and pushing his wife Correia when they were coming out of the panchayat hall and later pelted stones in the veranda of their house at Sonafator-Tilamol.
When contacted Quepem Police Inspector Brutno Peixote admitted that he received a cross complaint from Carvalho and informed that the inquiry is in progress.
It may be recalled that Quepem police registered a complaint under Section 323 of IPC against panch Correia for slapping Fernandes soon after the gram sabha held on Sunday after an arguments over panchayat’s refusal to issue NOC to obtain domestic water and electricity connection to Fernandes’ house at Sonafator-Tilamol.
