QUEPEM: The Xeldem Village Panchayat gram sabha on Sunday took two important resolutions on Coastal Zone Management Plan and Coastal Regulation Zone, the notification over the declaration of Xeldem Lake.

The sabha also discussed various issues, such as incomplete work of levelling the main road at Taki-Xeldem bus stop, drainage repair work at Nirmalnagar area and stray cattle, but failed to come up with concrete solutions.
James Fernandes proposed the following resolution: A special gram sabha be convened to explain the CZMP and CRZ plans with the help of a technical or knowledgeable person, who can explain the implications of the plans to the Xeldem villagers.
To hold the hearings to raise objections regarding the same be held at the local level or at the taluka level for the convenience of the villagers and better participation.
In connection to the same, Prashant Dessai informed the gram sabha that the notification regarding the declaration of Xeldem Lake as wetland was issued in September which was not brought to the notice of the gram sabha and requested the Xeldem Biodiversity Management Committee to immediately convene the meeting to discuss the notification and visit the site with the panch members to understand the implications.
Sarpanch Caitan Lima informed that various issues on garbage, stray cattle, proposed housing board area road and drainage were raised. All these issues will be put in the special panchayat meeting, which will be held shortly.
Panchayat Secretary Ravindra Wadekar mentioned that there were some proposals and suggestions, in that one proposal came up for repair of housing board area road at Sonfator and for that the panchayat don’t have that much funds. So the panchayat will put up this file with the Housing Board Department.
“For the notification regarding the declaration of Xeldem Lake as wetland, the inspection is schedule on coming Friday,” he said.
