VASCO: Yellow Black taxi operators on Wednesday met Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida on the issue of Rs 40 lakh bill imposed on them by Airport authorities for using the counter at the Dabolim airport.

The taxi operators questioned why the notified parking facility at the airport is underutilised.

Almeida informed reporters that the Yellow Black taxi operators’ delegations met him with regards to Rs 40 lakh bill imposed on them for using the counter at Dabolim Airport.

He said the taxi operators put forth the issue of parking facility that despite having a notified parking facility at the airport they have to park their vehicles outside the airport at roadside.

Almeida said the Yellow Black taxi operators also complained about the losses they face due to the Goa Miles counter at the airport and that this app-based taxi service tends to harm Goan taxi operators’ business.

The MLA said, “The Tourism Department should clear the bill. I have urged the taxi operators’ delegation to meet the Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho and put forth their grievances.”

Seema Parab, a Yellow and Black taxi operator said, “Outsiders are trying to overtake the taxi business wherein the Goans are suffering. With regards to Rs 40 lakh bill for using the counter at the Dabolim airport, the government should waive off some amount.”

Yatin Kamurlkar, former councillor and Yellow and Black taxi operator said “When initially GoaMiles application was launched, we were given an impression that for just few months this application will run on advertisement and there won’t be any counter at the airport. But today there is a GoaMiles counter and the customers are being taken by the Goa Miles and this leads to the clash between the Yellow Black taxi operators and Goa Miles.”
