PANJIM: While schools have been exempted from compulsorily participating in the International Yoga Day on June 21, some schools are expected to conduct sessions of surya namaskar and other yoga assanas on the campus and the Directorate of Health will hold taluka-level camps.
The Education department has confirmed it has not issued any circular asking schools to compulsorily observe the day. “The schools were only informed that a private organization is holding the event, which is supported by directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs. The circular was not directing compulsory attendance,” an official said.
The event at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee stadium in Taleigao is expected to have participation from many school students besides others. Meanwhile, some schools will independently hold sessions on the campus.
The directorate of Health Services has also organized separate camps for all its primary health centres, urban health centres and community health centres, at the taluka level. This has been informed to the Collectorates in both districts.
