Youth Cong members demand action on Milind

Allege that the minister has constructed a bungalow on Government land; Deputy Collector admits; Says it is upto the Govt to decide on the application

VASCO: The Youth Congress members took to the streets demanding action against Mormugao MLA and Urban Development Minister Milind Naik for his alleged illegal act of constructing a bungalow on Government land.
The Youth Congress on Friday handed over a memorandum to the Deputy Collector complaining with regards to the alleged violation. Surprisingly, the Deputy Collector has admitted that the said bungalow is in Government land.
The Youth Congress has alleged that Umesh Sagun Naik and Milind Sagun Naik have applied for regularisation of an alleged encroachment on Government land.
The Youth Congress members said the encroachment on Government land by a public official more so an MLA, who is currently a minister, is a very serious matter and these persons, who are the custodians of the Government property, cannot be permitted to be encroachers.
Youth Congress president Varad Mardolkar said, “The application for regularisation of an illegal structure on government land is itself bad in law and shouldn’t have been accepted at the first instance”.
He informed that the advertisement inviting objections and suggestions for the said regularisation application should have been publicised on newspaper by now. However that has not happened till date.
Mormugao Deputy Collector Mahadev Arondekar said, “It is Government land and it is upto the Government to decide the future of the application. We have processed the same and forwarded it to the District Collector to decide on the matter”.
The Youth Congress further alleged that Umesh Sagun Naik and Milind Sagun Naik have committed a fraud while procuring approval for hill cutting and for the development permission from the Mormugao PDA and construction licence from the Mormugao Municipal Council. Conversion sanad was also not obtained. They have already carried out the hill cutting of the government land by falsely representing it to be their own.”
The Youth Congress also sought the details of any such applications of regularisation and demanded action against the Minister under Prevention of Corruption Act.
