BICHOLIM: In a tragic incident, a youth, who had gone swimming, drowned in Valvanti river, on Monday afternoon near Shri Dev Tonyeshwar Ped, Vithalapur, Sankhali.
The deceased has been identified as Vyankateshwar Basavraj Nagappa, 27, resident of Vithalapur-Karapur and a native of Davanagere, Karnataka.

The incident came to light after locals noticed slippers and clothes on the river’s shore and informed Bicholim police and Bicholim fire station.
Bicholim fire station’s personnel comprising Sainath Kesarkar, Yogesh Mainkar, Shailesh Salkar, Harshad Sawant and Gaurish Gawas recovered the body from the river under the guidance of Rahul Desai.
Bicholim PSI Viraj Dhavaskar conducted the panchanama and sent the body to GMC, Bambolim for autopsy. PSI Dhavaskar is further investigating the case under the guidance of PI Dinesh Gadekar.
