On witnessing the truck tyres on fire, the alert residents informed the  Electricity Department and Ponda Fire Personnel and managed to prevent the truck from destruction.

Viraj Sapre from Ponda said, “The locals noticed that some black smoke started to emit from the tyres that started burning. The locals immediately informed the Electricity Department officials who switched off the power supply. The Fire Personnel too rushed to the spot and doused the fire and thus managed to prevent the truck getting gutted.

It may be recalled that after a body was found in a roadside pit at Bethora, the locals had stopped the parking of trucks in the area. Left with no space, the truckers now park their vehicles by the roadside at Bythakhol. However, with landfilling underway for the highway widening work, the height of the roadside shoulder has been increased which has “caused” the parked truck to come in contact with a high tension line.

This is the second such incident where a truck came in contact with high tension lines.

It may be recalled that a few days ago, a crane operator got electrocuted after a crane mounted truck on which he was operating came in contact with the overhead high tension line.
