PANJIM: The Porvorim police on Saturday arrested a 23-year-old man for committing mobile phone handset thefts.
According to the police, a complaint was lodged by one Jose Ivo Gregorio Barreto, owner of Holiday Village Hotel at Betim, wherein he informed that for the last some months many mobile phones were being stolen.
Based on the complaint, the Porvorim police launched a hunt for the accused.
Finally on Saturday, the police succeeded in arresting the accused Mario Fernandes from Mingfalwado-Chinchinim, Salcete, when he had come to commit theft again.
An FIR under sections 379 and 511 of IPC has been registered against Mario and police are in the process of recovering many stolen mobile phones.
The investigation team consisted of PSI Sanket Talkar and constables Nitesh Gaude, Ajay Korgaonkar and driver/constable Gauresh Londhe.
