SANTA CRUZ: A dispute over a soak pit took a violent turn when a youth from Deulwada-St Cruz was allegedly stabbed by his neighbour on Wednesday evening.
According to Old Goa Police, the incident occurred at about 6.15 pm when the victim, Nehal Sawantwadikar (20), was playing on a ground near his residence.
Old Goa Police further informed that there was a dispute between Nehal and the accused, Dayanand Gawas, over the construction of a soak pit by the Sawantwadikar family. The matter had reached the panchayat office, with the Gawas family complaining against the Sawantwadikar family.
While Nehal was playing on the ground, the accused went towards Nehal and allegedly stabbed him. Nehal was rushed to GMC Hospital and at the time of going to press, he had undergone an emergency surgery.
The police added that Nehal appeared to be out of danger, as he spoke to the police before being taken to the operation theatre.Speaking to Herald, St Cruz Sarpanch Vincent Lourenco said he had gone for a site inspection based on the complaint and had amicably resolved the issue between the two families.
Old Goa police has registered an offence against Dayanand for attempted murder.
