OLD GOA: One Dharmendra Singh (40) was murdered while another person Piyush Kumar (30) suffered serious injuries when both were stabbed by 19-year old Mustafa Shaikh in an incident that occurred at Primeiro Bairro-Santa Cruz on Monday night at around 9.30 pm.
According to police, the accused Mustafa came in an inebriated state and got into an argument with Dharmendra and Piyush which later escalated and resulted into the accused stabbing both the victims, who were then shifted to the GMC at Bambolim. All the three were residing in rented premises.
However, Dharmendra breathed his last on Tuesday morning while Piyush’s condition is said to be serious.
The accused Mustafa was arrested by the Old Goa police on Tuesday evening and is lodged at Ribandar lock up, the sources stated. Meanwhile, the incident has brought into sharp focus the need for setting up a separate police station in Santa Cruz.
Former MLA Victor Gonsalves, in whose neighbourhood the incident occurred, informed that land was acquired for the purpose when he was the MLA but lamented that till date a police station has not seen the light of the day.
“Old Goa police station is very far from Santa Cruz and there is literally no patrolling in the village, which results in such incidents,” he said while demanding that police increase night patrolling in the village.
Gonsalves further blamed the parents of the accused Mustafa for the incident as they were not able to show him the proper path. “Mustafa was a habitual offender and was involved in several petty crimes,” he further stated while also blaming lack of police patrolling for such crimes.
