PANJIM: Demanding a thorough investigation into the statement of PWD road contractor of paying huge kickbacks to politicians, Yuva Goa has filed complaints with Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Departments and also with the Crime Branch.
Addressing a press conference, Yuva Goa demanded a thorough investigation into the recent revelations and overall probe into existing road contract tendering process.
“We request the authorities to have a thorough inquiry and bring these culprits to book. The complaint copy has also been sent to the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar and the Chief Secretary Parimal Rai,” said Yuva Goa convenor Siddesh Bhagat.
He said for past many days Goans are angry over the road conditions across the State and several fatal accidents and injuries have been reported by media almost every day.
“The government that is expected to give us good roads has failed. Ironically, this is the road safety week,” he said.
He said a major revelation has come into the public domain.
“In a debate series telecast by a local channel, a road contractor has accused MLAs, ministers, officers of taking commissions for road tendering process,” he said.
He said the person who was representing road contractors on the debate, Mohandas Lolyekar reportedly claimed to have the evidence concerning the commission system.
“In fact, on the show, he is seen challenging anyone to deny the charges of accepting ‘commissions’. As claimed by Lolyekar on the show, the tender system for road contractors is rigid – thereby the price quoted to construct the road is less than 20 per cent from the actual amount,” he said.
Further, he says, five per cent goes for booking commission – that he claims the money goes to the ministers or their agents.
Further, another 2-5 per cent he says goes to the local leaders or MLA.
Shockingly, Bhagat said, BJP spokesperson Premanand Mhambre present during the debate representing the ruling party, instead of denying the charges justifies the existing rot.
