PANJIM: In a major setback for absconding accused Zenito Cardozo, the Additional Sessions Court has dismissed his plea for anticipatory bail in connection with the month-old shootout incident at St Cruz.

With the Court decision, the police have geared up to intensify their search for the ‘prime conspirator’ of the attack that accidentally killed a fellow gang member on June 20.

Cardozo had moved the local court seeking relief from arrest after the North Goa Police launched a massive hunt to trace his whereabouts. Several people have been questioned and dozens of possible hide outs raided in a failed bid to track him down.

After initial reluctance, the police have called him a prime conspirator of the attack. Imran Bepari’s house was attacked on June 20 which accidentally resulted in the killing of Sonu Yadav, fellow gang member.

Herald spoke to Superintendent of Police Shobhit Saxena who maintained that lookout for Cardozo had not stalled.

“The hunt is already on. Now we will be able to take recourse to other legal options such as non bailable warrant and if he still doesn’t cooperate with the investigation, we will make sure he is declared a proclaimed offender,” he said.

The police force has now intensified their search for the accused.
