‘No proposal from political parties to include opinion poll in syllabus’

While certain sections of the society are keen on a gradual revamp of the education system in the State, the Education Board is treading cautiously on the issue and is keen to involve all stakeholders as they go ahead to overhaul and make the defined changes. The issue of including Opinion Poll in the syllabus too has been hovering over educationists for a while. VRISHANK MAHATAME tries to get some relevant answers from the new GBSHSE Chairman

Herald:  What are your main priorities after taking over as the Chairman of Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education?
SAMANT: My main priority is to conduct the forthcoming STD 10 and12 board examination and secondly to declare the results of STD 12 board exams at the earliest possible to enable students, specially of Science stream to prepare for all the national and other competitive exams. Also, another priority is to boost the proposal of constructing a new building for the GBSHSE just in front of the existing facility. The facility will be built on an area of 7,000 square meters. The entire processes the pipeline and after all approvals the construction is expected to start. 
HERALD: Will the Goa Board use digital method for corrections during this academic year?
SAMANT: This year there is no proposal for digital correction for both the STD 10 as well as 12 board examinations and all the correction will be manual. The digital correction method is not feasible but the board will think over it in the coming years. In the previous year when this method was used by the board there were some issues. In future the board will definitely think about the digital method as it helps board to deal with correction in a faster manner thus resulting in faster declaration of results.
HERALD: Do you have any new plans or proposals to be introduced in the ensuing academic year. Or are you also looking at the possibility of upgrading the NCERT syllabus?  
SAMANT: As far as the board is concerned there is no new or any such kind of new proposals for the coming year. In terms of changing the syllabus, we will have to think about it. Also before doing such a major task, the board also will have to consider and take view of all the stakeholders that are the Education Department, the Chief Minister/Education Minister and also the NCERT. As of now there is no proposal to upgrade or change the syllabus.   
HERALD:  As some political parties have demanded the inclusion of Opinion Poll into the syllabus, will the board think of this proposal? 
SAMANT:Till now we have not received any such written proposal from political parties who have demanded the inclusion of the Opinion Poll in the syllabus. Once the board will receive a written we can think of the future action and also as 
I have mentioned that the board also will have to consider and take view of all the stakeholders that are the Education Department, the Chief Minister/Education Minister and also the NCERT.
