MARGAO: A late strike by Cardidade Fernandes helped ABC, Benaulim overcome St Anthony’s Boys 1-0 to sail into the quarter-finals of Young Fighters football tournament organized by Young Fighters at Ximbumol ground, Benaulim, Monday. There was no score at the lemon break.
In an evenly poised battle, the teams adopted an attacking approach, as a result there were few thrills at either goal.
The second session continued in same vein as the teams went all out in search of elusive match-winner.
With the match heading for a tie-breaker, Caridade struck the match-winner when his powerful volley crashed past diving St Anthony’s goalkeeper Jackson Fernandes off an assist from Joel Fernandes.
